Forty-two hands,
one workshop
Atelier was founded in 2014 by a father-and-son team who believed furniture had lost its soul. They started with a single workbench in a converted textile mill in Porto, Portugal.
Twelve years later, the workshop spans 4,000 square meters and employs forty-two artisans — woodworkers, upholsterers, finishers, and a single, very particular person whose job is to select the grain on every visible surface.
We still build every piece the same way: slowly, by hand, from wood that has been air-dried for eighteen months. Nothing leaves the workshop until it passes a 40-point inspection.
What we stand for
Radical durability
We build for the next generation, not the next season. Every joint is designed to be repaired, not replaced.
Honest materials
Solid hardwood, natural oils, wool, and linen. No veneers, no MDF, no foam that will crumble in five years.
Fair labor
Every artisan is paid above the living wage, works a four-day week, and signs each piece they build.
Come see it yourself
Our Porto showroom is open Tuesday through Saturday. Coffee is always on.
